The 32nd session of the Organizations’ Coordination and Follow-up Committee of the Economic and Social Council kicked off on July 17, 2023 at ALECSO headquarters in Tunis, Tunisia, with the participation of representatives from Arab States, specialized Arab organizations, and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
H.E. Minister Plenipotentiary Muhammad Khair Abdel Qader, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations at the League of Arab States, indicated that the Organizations’ Coordination and Follow-up Committee is in charge of following up the work of Arab organizations and reviewing periodic reports. These include reports on the achievements of specialized Arab organizations, reports of financial and administrative oversight bodies, reports of heads of internal control units, final accounts and audit reports, the periodic report of the Arab Monetary Fund on the management of the Consolidated Account, and the periodic report on the scheduling of the Arab States’ arrears in the budgets of specialized Arab organizations.
The agenda of the session, held over four days, featured key items, including amending the rules and criteria for establishing specialized Arab organizations and other affiliated entities of the League of Arab States, updating the mechanism for obligating specialized Arab organizations to implement the resolutions of the Economic and Social Council, and establishing entities affiliated with the League of Arab States, such as the Arab Translation Observatory.
The outcomes of this session will be submitted for approval to the 112th meeting of the Economic and Social Council, scheduled to be held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on August 27-31, 2023.
