ALECSO releases 68th  issue of the Arab Journal of Culture

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Culture Department) has recently released the 68th issue of the Arab Journal of Culture.

The topic chosen for this issue is “Sufi Heritage in the Arab Countries”, which covers zawiyas, shrines, Sufi schools, as well as elements of tangible culture (manuscripts, waqf documents, archives, furniture...)  and elements of intangible culture (Sufi rituals, practices, celebrations, and legends woven about Sufi leaders and their exploits, virtues, and role in society).

The Journal features articles by specialized researchers and academics from several Arab countries, covering various relevant topics including the origins of Sufism and the relations of Sufists with society, with the ruling authorities, and with other surrounding actors.

The findings from these articles have shown the diversity of Sufi heritage and the existence of many common features for this type of heritage, not only among Arab countries, but also for all of humanity. This heritage can thus be the subject of a joint Arab nomination file, with this issue of the Journal paving the way for considering the preparation of this file.
