ALECSO participates in “Second International Conference on   Nano-science and Nano-technologies” in Nouakchott

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part, on June 19, 2023, in the “Second International Conference on Nano-science and Nano-technologies”, organized in Nouakchott, Mauritania, by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Modern University of Nouakchott.

The three-day conference was designed to shed light on nano-technologies and nano-sciences that have considerably evolved in recent years, and are now widely used in various fields, including renewable energies, electronics, medical applications, water treatment, and other fields related to people’s daily lives.

H.E. Mr. Mohamed Lemine Ould Aboye Ould Cheikh El Hadrami, Mauritanian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed, on this occasion, the importance of the Conference which provides an opportunity for interested researchers and post-graduate students to discuss the latest research in nano-technologies and nano-sciences. 

The Conference featured specialized lectures by invitees from prestigious international universities in the United Kingdom, Senegal, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria and South Africa, in addition to researchers from national research centers.

Dr. Mohamed El-Amine Ould Mohamed Achfagh, Expert at ALECSO, delivered a statement on behalf of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, in which he pointed out  that nanotechnologies have brought about a huge revolution and a qualitative leap in various fields of human life. These technologies offer new and renewable applications in agricultural and medical fields, water and the environment, information and communication technologies, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and other industrial sectors.  

The ALECSO expert stressed the need for Arab countries to keep pace with global developments in this vital field, to take best advantage of modern technologies, to develop national capacities and establish specialized centers in nanotechnology, to provide the needed infrastructure and specialized equipment, as well as to support and encourage researchers and promote the sharing of expertise, experience and information among them. He called on the Conference organizers, researchers and experts to look into the potential impacts of nano-applications on health, environment, and social-economic fields, and to explore the prospects of partnership with the private sector in promising new areas such as nanotechnology in the Arab region.
