119th session of ALECSO Executive Board concludes

The 119th session of the Executive Board of  ALECSO concluded on June 4, 2023, in the presence of representatives of all Member States, including Syria after its return to the Arab League.

The two-day meeting reviewed the outcomes and outputs of ALECSO’s work over the past period and the future prospects. It also discussed ALECSO's financial and administrative reports for the year 2022.

In his statement to the meeting, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, commended the efforts of all Arab countries and their significant cooperation and interaction with the Organization. He indicated that ALECSO is looking forward to more support in the coming period so that it can best pursue its mandate as an Arab platform of expertise, in line with the Board’s recommendations and resolutions, through the projects and activities scheduled to be implemented in Member States in 2023 and 2024.

The Director-General went on to say : “We sensed the spirit of hard work and the magnitude of the responsibility that we all share. It is important that our goals be aligned with our ambitions, especially with the launch of the first tranche of the Organization’s Action Plan 2023-2028.” He stressed the importance of “increasing coordination with Member States so that the outcomes and outputs of our activities leave the desired positive impact.”

The Director-General called on the Executive Board to continue its support for ALECSO and its programs. He noted that the high level of discussions and the interesting ideas that were shared during the meeting are the best evidence that ALECSO’s vision is aligned with the expectations and aspirations of the Board. He also commended the high sense of responsibility and the keen desire to enrich reflection on the topics addressed in the specialized meetings.

Concluding his statement, the Director-General stressed the need to face challenges in a positive and responsible way. “We are optimistic”, he said, “that our Arab countries will succeed in promoting quality, equitable and inclusive education, which will help reduce dropout rates, bridge the digital divide, and combat the scourge of illiteracy which has serious impacts on the future of our citizens and countries.” He indicated, in this regard, that  ALECSO is working to organize the first conference on learning loss, which will explore ways of addressing this serious problem.

For his part, H.E. Mr. Hani Al-Moqbel bin Al-Moqbel, Chairman of the Executive Board, stressed the need for joint action and coordination between the members of the Executive Board, representatives of Arab countries, to upgrade the work of ALECSO, so that it remains a beacon of science and knowledge. He highlighted the importance of forging partnerships with institutions to benefit from their expertise and experience,  and implementing joint activities that enhance self-financing. This future-oriented direction, he added, is aligned with the Organization’s forward-looking vision that the Executive Board seeks to consolidate in the visions and plans for the future. He concluded by expressing his appreciation of the outcomes of the meeting.
