 Expert Meeting kicks off in Rabat   ahead of ALECSO’s 13th Conference of Arab Education Ministers 

 

 

The Expert Meeting of the 13th Conference of Arab Education Ministers, convened by ALECSO under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco,  kicked off on May 29, 2023, in Rabat, Morocco.

The Conference, hosted by the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, aims to discuss current developments and their impact on shaping the future of education, the Arab visions with regard to the school of the future, the promotion of digital skills in education in the context of digital transformation, the development of digital infrastructure and educational governance, and the preparation of teachers for tomorrow’s school.

On its first day, the Expert Meeting involved three working sessions devoted to the presentation and discussion  of the document on “the future of education in the Arab world in the era of digital transformation for a quality public school”; the document of the Kingdom of Morocco, Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Comprehensive Education and Equity”;  and the document on “the Arab framework for financing the integration of distance education into school curricula as part of joint Arab cooperation”. Discussions also focused on the issue of “learning Loss”, the implementation of the commitments of the common Arab curriculum for School Theater”, and the “Arabic Language Month” initiative.

On its second day, the Expert Meeting involved five working sessions devoted to discussing the transformation of education in the Arab countries, the Moroccan experience in preschool education, the use of artificial intelligence in education, as well as education challenges, priorities and objectives in the MENA region.

A session was also devoted to showcasing and sharing relevant Arab national experiences and best practices.

Following the discussion of the documents presented at the Expert Meeting, a number of recommendations and proposals were formulated, to be submitted to the Ministerial Meeting on May 31, 2023.

The representatives of 18 Arab States participated in the meeting, namely : Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Comoros, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, and Yemen.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from partner Arab, regional and international organizations, centers and bodies, including ABEGS, UNESCO Regional Center of Quality and Excellence in Education, Arab Theater Authority, International Council for the Arabic Language, and the World Bank. 

Participants also included ALECSO experts, a delegation from the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, and representatives from the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.
