ALECSO Director-General participates in the celebration of   Arabic Manuscripts Day in Al-Quds Al-Sharif

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part virtually, on April 4, 2023, in the celebration of the Arabic Manuscripts Day, organized by the Palestinian  Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs .

In a recorded statement broadcast at the opening of the celebration, the Director-General said: “Today we mark the Arabic Manuscripts Day with a sense of hope and optimism, as this celebration takes place in the City of Al-Quds. It is a source of pleasure for us that this celebration starts from this holy city. It will then extend across the Arab world, and will conclude with an official event to be organized in Iraq, the cradle of civilizations.”

The Director-General took this opportunity to commend the significant efforts made by the Cairo-based Institute of Arabic Manuscripts to preserve, restore, verify and study Arabic manuscripts, as well as to provide relevant training to specialists and to all interested researchers, academics, students, and others.

The Director-General stressed that ALECSO will continue to work for preserving cultural heritage in general, and manuscripts in particular. He referred, in this context, to the project of “creating a mechanism for collecting, processing and making available digitized documents on the City of Al-Quds,” one of the pilot projects included in the updated Comprehensive Plan for Arab Culture. He indicated that ALECSO and the Institute will work to provide the needed resources for the implementation of this project in best conditions.
