ALECSO holds Webinar on   “The Use of Technology for Education Sustainability During Crises and Disasters”

 



The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ICT Department) held, on March 28, 2023, in cooperation with the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, a webinar on “The use of technology for education sustainability during crises and disasters”.

In his opening address, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, stressed the great importance that the Organization attaches to developing technology-based solutions with a view to addressing learning gaps during crises and disasters and improving preparedness to meet future emergency situations. He highlighted ALECSO’s efforts and initiatives in this regard, especially during the recent COVID-19 crisis, including promoting distance education, supporting efforts to achieve Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and working to overcome difficulties to ensure quality, equitable, inclusive and lifelong education for all.

Six presentations were made during the webinar. Dr. Mohamed Jemni offered a presentation in which he highlighted ALECSO’s initiatives during the COVID-19 crisis. He also presented the main projects that the ICT Department is currently working on, including the unified Arab Blockchain-based certificate authentication  system, and the ALECSO Metaverse and NFT Platform, which will be launched during the third edition of the Arab Code Week, to be held under the theme of “Arabic Language and Digital Creativity”.

For his part, Dr. Rami Iskander, Director of the Education Department, delivered a presentation entitled “the use of modern technology for more interactive and quality education”, in which he showcased the outcomes of a scientific study on the usefulness of distance learning technologies in enhancing academic achievement.

Following the presentations, the floor was open for discussions on the theme of the webinar. All participants underlined the importance of advance planning to meet crises and maintain the continuity of learning.
