Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization held, on March 13-14, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt, in cooperation with the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, a workshop on “Using Big Data Analytics for Environment Protection and Sustainable Development”.
Mr. Amine Dahmani, Program Coordinator at ALECSO’s Department of Science and Scientific Research, underlined, in his remarks at the opening of the workshop, the importance of Big Data in supporting government policies, including in the fields of education and environmental protection, and the opportunities they provide to enhance the educational process and develop infrastructure strategies to improve quality of life. He indicated that ALECSO stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with the international and regional organizations participating in the workshop.
The workshop was moderated by relevant experts and specialists. Forty-seven trainees, including teachers, researchers, and deans of colleges of engineering, sciences, and pharmacy from Egypt took part in the workshop, in addition to participants from other Arab countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Palestine, Libya and Oman).
The workshop addressed a range of themes, including :

- The role of Big Data in promoting good health and well-being
- Applications of remote sensing technology, Big Data, and geographic information systems in the fields of water and agriculture
- Green cloud computing and environmental sustainability

- Promoting the use of Big Data analytics in education to improve learner performance and teaching quality
- Big Data, green technology and equality towards a resilient and sustainable future
- The role of advanced technology and information systems in facing climate change and achieving sustainable development in the Arab region
