ALECSO participates in Cairo in LAS-UN Meeting on   “Cooperation in Combating Climate Change”

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the 15th meeting on cooperation between the League of Arab States and the United Nations and its specialized agencies, under the theme of “Cooperation in Combating Climate Change”. The meeting was held on February 27-28, 2023 at the headquarters of the Arab league General Secretariat.

The meeting was convened as part of implementing the resolution of the 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at ministerial level and the resolution of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. It was attended by 29 representatives from Arab and UN organizations, and also from the United Nations Liaison Office to the League of Arab States, based in Cairo.

The representatives of the participating international organizations and institutions addressed several topics, including the outcomes of “COP 27” and the implementation of international agreements on climate change, energy, and water and food security, and the resulting implications for the Arab region. Others issues discussed  included disaster reduction and early warning, climate security, and sustainable peace.

It was agreed to set programs for the implementation of joint activities in the Arab region during the period to come.

Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Kamal, Director of the Cairo-based Institute of Arab Research and Studies, was mandated by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, to represent the Organization in this event which was also attended by Dr. Mohammed Al-Tanahi, Head of the Research and Studies Department at the Institute.
