ALECSO organizes training workshop in Mauritania 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held, on  February 23-25, 2023 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, a training workshop entitled: “Renewing approaches, developing training methodologies, programs and projects, and aligning them with trainees’ needs and expectations in their social, economic and cultural contexts within the framework of lifelong learning.”

In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, stressed the importance of strengthening the capacities of Mauritania’s Education Ministry officials, and upgrading  the Mauritanian educational system through the use of modern technology, including distance learning. He also called for more intensive work for developing textbooks and revisiting assessment methods.

For his part, Dr. Rami Iskander, Director of the Education Department, underlined the importance of holding such training workshops, especially those designed to meet real needs, in order to achieve the desired goals. He noted that lifelong learning has now become a necessity, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic which affected most societies and increased illiteracy and learning losses. He indicated that the training workshop seeks to come out with practical solutions in response to these problems.

H.E. Mr. Brahim Vall Ould Mohamed Lemine, Minister of National Education and Reform of Education System, indicated that the Ministry seeks to benefit from the expertise of ALECSO in various fields, including distance education and teacher-training.

A number of  senior officials at the Ministry of National Education and Reform of Education System benefited from this training session which covered a range of topics related to lifelong learning strategies, the digital age, online research skills, digital citizenship, adult learning and education (ALE) programs, curriculum GlobALE competency framework, and training programs for lifelong learning.
