ALECSO participates in Arab Water Convention 2023 in the UAE

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part, in Dubai, UAE, on February 20-21, 2023, in the 2023 edition of the “Arab Water Convention” and the accompanying exhibition, at the invitation of Dr. Hussein El-Atfy, Secretary-General of the Arab Water Council.

The forum was held under the theme of : “Non-conventional Water Resources : Business Opportunities”. It was attended by relevant international experts as well as representatives from regional and international organizations, the private sector, and civil society from the Arab region and beyond.

The Forum addressed a range of themes, including :

  • Effective governance frameworks to promote the use of non-conventional water resources;
  • The financing of new investment projects in the field of water resources;
  • Innovative solutions for the use of non-conventional water resources : from theory to practice;
  • The financing of climate action and non-conventional water resources projects;
  • Innovative projects in the field of non-conventional water resources;

ALECSO was represented in this event by Mr. Amine Dahmani, from the Department of Science and Scientific Research, who also participated in two workshops of sub-working groups that involved representatives of regional and international organizations, the private sector and research centers.  The workshops were designed to simulate innovative projects and discuss issues related to the use of non-conventional water resources.

The closing session reviewed the forum’s key recommendations and conclusions, especially in relation to :

  • The promotion of an enabling environment for investment in non-conventional water resources;
  • Opportunities for investment in non-conventional water resources;
  • The involvement of non-governmental institutions, private sector and civil society as a strategic partner for investment in non-conventional water resources,
  • Increased cooperation with international partners to strengthen national capacities to achieve energy and food security and curb climate change impacts, as part of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
