ALECSO signs two Framework Agreements with the UAE National Commission and the ALECSO Ambassador Extraordinary for Arab Culture

As part of its efforts to promote joint Arab action and preserve cultural heritage in Arab countries, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization signed, on January 19, 2023, two Framework Agreements with the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and Sheikha Al Yazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, ALECSO Ambassador Extraordinary for Arab Culture.

The first agreement concerns “the development and enrichment of the Arabic Inscriptions Portal”, which is part of the joint Arab project approved at the 22nd Conference of Arab Culture Ministers, kindly hosted by the UAE at the end of 2021. It is also part of the continued implementation of the activities of the ALECSO Ambassador Extraordinary for Arab culture.

The second agreement aims to prepare a joint file on the intangible cultural heritage of countries with special needs and to register it with UNESCO. It reflects the joint will of ALECSO and the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth to support these countries and enable them to inscribe their intangible cultural heritage, as is the case with most Arab countries.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, highlighted the importance of the two agreements in strengthening joint Arab action and preserving cultural heritage in the Arab countries. He highly appreciated the UAE’s continuous support for ALECSO, and called on other Member States to cooperate with the Organization for the effective and timely implementation of these agreements.
