ALECSO releases 33rd  issue of the Arab Journal of Information

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) has recently released  the 33rd issue of the “Arab Journal of Information”.

The issue includes articles about Open Access, one of the key focus areas of the ICT Department which has launched pioneering projects in this field, with a beneficial impact in all parts of the Arab world. These projects include :

  • Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) project
  • Teacher capacity development project, based on the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers
  • Project on the use of Cloud Computing in education in the Arab world
  • Project for the promotion of Arab mobile applications
  • Project for the promotion of OERs in the Arab world.

In addition to awareness-raising and capacity-building, these projects are designed to create unified Arab platforms for digital Arabic open educational resources, to be made available on global OER platforms as a unified access point to the educational content developed in all Arab countries. This helps to publicize and disseminate these projects and increases opportunities for cooperation between teachers and authors of educational content in producing, sharing, making available, and facilitating access to those resources by teachers and learners across the world.

It is noteworthy that there has been a global call for promoting Open Access by international and national institutions, so that scientific research outputs are made available to all interested persons in a free and unrestricted manner. For its part, ALECSO has supported this call, which would enrich the Arabic Open-Access content in all scientific disciplines.
