 ALECSO holds high-level Arab Symposium to follow up on  recommendations of the 12th  Conference of Arab Education Ministers

 

 

Under the auspices of H.E. Director-General Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization held, on January 18, 2023, at its headquarters in Tunis, a high-level Arab symposium to follow up on the recommendations issued by the 12th Conference of Arab Education Ministers, chaired by the State of Palestine.

The opening of the Symposium was attended by H.E. Dr. Marwan Awartani, Palestinian Minister of Education and Chairman of the 12th Conference of Arab Education Ministers, H.E. Dr. Fethi Sellaouti, Tunisian Minister of Education, H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Medaires RCQE Director-General , and H.E. Mr. Ismail Abdullah, Secretary-General of the Arab Theater Authority.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Palestinian Education Minister for his great efforts in following up on the implementation of the recommendations adopted by the 12th Conference of Arab Education Ministers, as well as to ALECSO’s strategic partners for their fruitful cooperation in preparing the scientific documents recommended by the Conference.

The Director-General indicated that in implementation of the recommendations of the Conference, ALECSO is holding this high-level symposium in cooperation with partner organizations, centers and bodies. He highlighted, in this regard, the efforts made by the Organization to implement the recommendations addressed to ALECSO. 

The Director-General stated that three scientific documents were prepared to that end. ALECSO, he added, also cooperated with the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education in preparing a document on “Learning Loss”, and with the Arab Theater Authority in preparing a document on “The Joint Arab Theatre Curriculum”. ALECSO has also coordinated with the Bahraini Ministry of Education to showcase Bahrain’s experience in “Promoting contents on civic education and human rights”.

The symposium addressed a range of topics, including :

  • Remedial education in the Arab countries (formal and non-formal), and ways to enhance its quality and sustainability
  • Inclusive and equitable education
  • Broad lines of an Arab framework for financing the integration of distance learning into the educational process
  • Learning loss
  • Promoting contents on civic education and human rights.

 

Following the presentation of reference documents, discussions focused on ways of enhancing Arab States’ SDG4 efforts,  the need to provide data and statistics on Arab educational systems, being necessary for preparing diagnosis reports and studies, and the importance of continued follow-up and evaluation at all stages of SDG4 implementation.

The Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education, the Arab Theater Authority, and the members of ALECSO’s Permanent Advisory Committee for Education took part in the Symposium.
