ALECSO Director-General participates in the inauguration of   “Nouakchott, Capital of Islamic Culture” event



H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part, on January 6, 2023, in the launch ceremony of “Nouakchott,  Capital of Islamic Culture” for 2023, inaugurated in Mauritania under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

In his statement on this occasion, the Director-General thanked Mauritania’s President, Government and people for organizing this one-year event that will enable exploration of Mauritania’s rich cultural heritage and will feature various activities that serve as opportunities for Arab, African and Islamic cultural exchange.

The Director-General noted that the “Capital of Islamic Culture” program is one of ICESCO’s key programs, being an opportunity to promote and valorize the cultural assets of ancient Islamic cities, and highlight their contribution to the advancement of Islamic and human civilization.

The Director-General stressed that ALECSO  will continue to strengthen its presence in Mauritania,  especially in terms of training Mauritanian youth, strengthening their capabilities, and enabling them to engage in cultural, scientific and intellectual life. ALECSO will also work to support the presence of Mauritania’s tangible and intangible heritage elements on the World Heritage List, and to encourage innovative and creative cultural projects.

The Director-General concluded by thanking the High Preparatory Committee of “Nouakchott, Capital of Islamic Culture”, and the Mauritanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, for the excellent organization of this event.
