H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, Minister of Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, received H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, who was accompanied by H.E. Dr. Hayat Guermazi, Tunisian Minister of Culture.
This meeting was held on the sidelines of the Forum on “Enhancing Women’s Leadership for Peace and Development in the Arab Region”, hosted by Mauritania on December 28-29, 2022, under the high patronage of Mauritania’s First Lady, Dr. Maryam Fadel Al-Dah.
The Director-General reiterated, on this occasion, his thanks to Mauritania’s President, Government and people, for the generous hosting of the Forum and for providing all conditions of success to this important event.
The Director-General commended the significant level of fruitful cooperation between ALECSO and the Mauritanian Culture Ministry. He reviewed the culture-related activities, programs and projects included in the Organization’s budget program for the 2023-2024 financial cycle, which is the first tranche of the Action Plan for the period 2023-2028.
For his part, the Minister underlined the need to boost joint cooperation between ALECSO and the Culture Ministry in various fields of shared interest. He insisted on the need to best leverage the outputs and outcomes of the updated Comprehensive Plan for Arab Culture, approved by 22nd Conference of Arab Culture Ministers held in Dubai, UAE, at the end of 2021.
The Minister called on the Organization to ensure best follow-up of the resolutions adopted by the 23rd Conference of Arab Culture Ministers, recently held in Riyadh, KSA, in December 2022, especially with regard to the key theme of the conference: “Culture and Green Future”, especially in view of the rich experience and expertise accumulated by the Organization over the past five decades.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Tunisian Ambassador to Mauritania, and Mr. Abdelhedi Ghemari, Project Coordinator at ALECSO Culture Department.
