The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Culture Department) held, on December 27-28, 2022, a Forum on “Environmental Awareness for a Green Future".
The Forum is held as part of one of the focus areas of ALECSO’s Strategic Plan 2017-2022. It is also aligned with the recommendations and outputs of relevant forums and conferences organized by ALECSO, particularly the 23rd Conference of Arab Culture Ministers, kindly hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on December 7, 2022, during which the “Culture and Green Future” initiative was launched.
The Forum offered an opportunity for interaction and sharing experiences on ways of promoting the environmental culture and instilling it in young generations. The increase of pollution and the resulting environmental disasters require raising environmental awareness among youth, through the joint efforts of all relevant actors, including experts, official bodies, civil society organizations, culture, art and media people, along with children and youth.
Through this Forum, ALECSO sought to highlight the crucial importance of environmental awareness, and the key and effective role that artists and creators can play in this regard .
The Forum addressed a range of themes, including :
- The role of official institutions in raising environmental awareness;
- The role of civil society organizations in raising environmental awareness;
- Environmental awareness in urban areas;
- The digital space and interactive games for the promotion of environmental awareness;
- The powerful role of culture and arts in raising environmental awareness.
