The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) took part in the International Conference on Laws, Regulations, Legislation, Policies, and Language Planning, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on December 18-19, 2022.

In his statement to the Conference, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Kamal, Director of the Institute of Arab Research and Studies,  H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, underlined the importance of the Conference, and commended the partnership and cooperation relations between ALECSO and the Arabic Language International Council for the implementation of projects and programs serving the Arabic language.

The Director-General welcomed the approval, by the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers, of the “Arabic Language Month” initiative, implemented by the Council and the League in partnership with other relevant parties. He indicated that ALECSO will spare no effort to contribute to the implementation of this important Arab initiative. 

The Director-General also welcomed the Arabic Language Law, which will be presented at the conference by the Arab Parliament, after it was submitted to Arab Shura Councils and parliaments to provide their observations on its provisions; thereby ensuring that the law meets its goal and serves as a reference for policy- and decision-making on the Arabic language. 

The Director-General reaffirmed ALECSO’s support for the efforts made by the Arabic Language International Council and its significant initiatives for the advancement of the Arabic language, so that it remains a language of science and civilization. 

The Director-General concluded by expressing hope that the Conference come out with recommendations that would strengthen joint Arab efforts.
