ALECSO holds 5th meeting of the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Innovation in the Arab Countries

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Science and Scientific Research Department) held, on December 14, 2022, the 5th meeting of the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Innovation in the Arab Countries.

The meeting was attended by members of the Standing Committee from Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, and Yemen.

The meeting aimed at laying out the broad lines of the Committee’s work  for the years 2023-2024, in such a way as to meet the needs and requirements of the Arab countries.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohammed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department, conveyed the greetings of the Director-General to the Committee members, and his wishes for the success of the meeting. He reaffirmed, on this occasion, that ALECSO is sparing no effort to contribute to promoting scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship, as a means of enhancing economic development in the Arab countries.

During the first working session, Dr. Abu Darwish presented the periodic Follow-up Report on the Committee’s work. 

During the second working session, a PP presentation was made about the role of scientific research and innovation in developing the TVET sector in the Arab countries. The experiences of Egypt and Morocco were presented as a model in this regard, in preparation for their submission to the 3rd  Conference of Arab Ministers and Senior Officials in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, to be hosted by Algeria on December 24-26 2022. This conference will address the ways and means of enhancing the role of scientific research in advancing education, higher education, TVET, and the green economy in the Arab World.

It is worth recalling that the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Innovation in the Arab Countries includes in its membership deputy ministers and general directors from the ministries concerned with higher education and scientific research in 20 Arab countries, namely: Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Djibouti, KSA, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Comoros, and Yemen.
