In parallel with the 2022 World Cup, the Ministry of Culture in the State of Qatar has organized various cultural events, including the “Forum of Organizations from Local to Global”, held on December 12-13, 2022, under the slogan: “Our unity is the source of our strength.”
A session was devoted in this Forum to the presentation of regional and international organizations. H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director-General of ALECSO, offered an overview about ALECSO and its mandate, goals and values, organizational structure, plans and strategies, current challenges and future prospects. Other presentations were made, during this session, by :
- The Director-General of ICESCO, Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al Malik;
- The Representative of UNECSO in the Arab Gulf States and Yemen and Director of UNESCO Office in Doha, Dr. Salah El Din Zaki Khaled;
- Director of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities in the Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Dr. Saad bin Mohamed Al Zughaibi.
On the same occasion, the Director-General circulated an explanatory document about the updated Comprehensive Plan for Arab Culture which serves as :
- A comprehensive guiding document designed to help implement cultural development obligations in the Arab countries, while expanding the scope of cultural policies to encompass issues that most affect people’s lives;
- A platform for drawing up social integration and sustainable development policies based on the influence and power of culture, and for developing inclusive, culture-based plans that can help achieve social wellbeing and civil peace in the Arab region;
- A document that highlights the role of Arab culture in shaping the future of human culture, and underlines the importance of developing local cultural policies in Arab countries and linking them to key concerns, including peace, security and development.
The Director General indicated that in preparing the updated comprehensive plan for Arab culture, ALECSO sought to engage Arab countries in renewed global thinking about cultural policies and how to leverage the power of culture to meet current and future challenges and priorities.
