The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), represented by Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu-Darwish, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department, took part in the 14th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, chaired by the State of Palestine, which took place on November 30 – December 1, 2022 at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt.
The items on the meeting agenda included the follow-up on the implementation of the “Executive Plan of the Water Security Strategy in the Arab Region to Face Future Challenges of Sustainable Development”, as well as the follow-up on the implementation of the “Water-related sustainable development goals.” The meeting also discussed cooperation with Arab, regional and international organizations and with Arab and regional financing institutions.
In addition to its participation in the 14th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, ALECSO took part in the 4th Arab Water Conference, held under the theme of “Arab Water Security for Life, Development and Peace”. The Conference addressed, among other items, the challenge of water scarcity and its economic and social effects, the water-food-energy nexus, and water desalination and purification.
High-level technical sessions were also held to discuss water security issues in relation to the implementation of sustainable development goals in the Arab region.
