ALECSO Delegation concludes working visit to Catalonia

 

The ALECSO delegation concluded its working visit to Catalonia. The delegation included Dr. Mohammad Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research, Mr. Hechmi Ardhaoui from the Department of Education, and Ms. Nesrin Ghnaim, External Relations Officer.

This visit, conducted under the guidance of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, is designed to build relations of cooperation and partnership with Catalonia in the fields of education and scientific research, especially in the teaching and disseminating of Arabic among non-native learners in Catalonia.

During this visit, the ALECSO delegation met with Catalan officials from the Ministries of Education and of Foreign Affairs, and also from the Catalan Parliament. It stressed ALECSO’s readiness to strengthen educational, cultural and scientific exchange between Catalonia and the Arab countries,  and to set up a program for joint cooperation.

The ALECSO delegation also took part in the symposium held by the Euro-Mediterranean Institute on “The Presence of the Arab World in Catalan Schools”. In a statement on this occasion,  delivered on his behalf by Mr. Hechmi Ardhaoui, the Director-General highlighted the need to leverage past experiences and the lessons drawn from shared history. He called for taking best advantage of present and future opportunities to enhance the values ​​of cultural and linguistic diversity, coexistence and dialogue, and consolidate them through education, culture and media. He underlined ALECSO’s readiness to promote sustainable relations of cooperation and partnership between Arab institutions and their counterparts in Catalonia.
