ALECSO holds training workshop for Yemeni teachers on   “Upgrading Teacher Competencies in the Use of Modern Technologies in Education”

 

 

 

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization held, on October 6-17, 2022, jointly with the Yemeni National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, a virtual training course for Yemeni teachers on “Upgrading teacher competencies in the use of modern technologies in education.”

In his statement on this occasion, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, highlighted ALECSO’s keen interest in supporting Arab National Commissions and in providing training to the staff of Arab Education Ministries, being one of the Organization’s work priorities.

Dr. Jemni highlighted the significant role played by Arab National Commissions in coordinating cooperation between ALECSO and Member States, as well as in designing, planning, implementing, and following up projects and programs.  He stressed the great attention granted to National Commissions, so that they have the material and human resources that enable them to perform their role in best conditions, and play a key part in developing Arab educational systems and enhancing their performance, and accordingly in advancing Arab societies and achieving sustainable development goals. 

Dr. Jemni underlined the importance of upgrading the skills of teachers in the use of modern technologies in education, in line with relevant international standards, which would raise the quality of teacher performance.  He stressed, in this regard, the need to keep pace with the tremendous developments in the ICT sector, which have given rise to new methods of smart education and learning that are more attractive, accessible, motivating, innovative, creative, flexible, and effective in the face of emergencies and crises.

The training focused on education technology, distance learning/education, digital teaching tools, new teacher roles, online educational applications, and the promotion of the computer culture.

The opening session was attended by Ms. Hafedah Al-Shaikh, Secretary-General of the Yemeni National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, along with the staff of the Secretariat of the National Commission and the University of Aden.

Thirteen (13) trainees from education directorates and educational research centers participated in the workshop.

This workshop is part of a series of training programs designed to enhance the capacities of Arab teachers, by providing them with basic skills and competencies to contribute to the development and advancement of their societies.
