As part of the “Irbid, Capital of Arab Culture 2022” event, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (represented by the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts) held on October 18, 2022 at the Yarmouk University, jointly with the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, a symposium entitled : “The Jerusalem Manuscript Heritage : Between Expectations and Reality”.

In his statement on this occasion, Dr. Mourad Rifi, Director of the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, underlined the key importance of the Arabic manuscript heritage in Palestine, given its close connection with the Arab Nation and its historical rights. He commended the significant role played by Jordan, under the leadership of the Hashemites, in preserving the Palestinian heritage and standing against all attempts to obliterate it and alter its features.

Dr. Rifi conveyed to all those present the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO. He extended his thanks to the Yarmouk University and to the Executive Bureau of the “Irbid, Capital of Arab Culture 2022” celebration for their cooperation in organizing this important symposium. He reviewed the efforts made by ALECSO and its specialized subsidiary body, the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, to preserve the manuscript heritage all over the Arab World,  and particularly in Palestine, and to make it available to all those interested.

For his part, Dr. Islam Massad, President of Yarmouk University, commended the significant role of ALECSO and the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts in preserving the Arabic manuscript heritage, especially in Palestine, being a fundamental responsibility that must be fulfilled despite all challenges. He stressed that the heritage of Jerusalem is of great importance to the Islamic Nation, and must therefore be preserved so that it remains present in all Arab and Islamic heritage institutions.

At the end of the symposium, the President of Yarmouk University offered the Shield of the University to Dr. Mourad Rifi.
