The Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, a subsidiary institution of ALECSO,  held, on October 4, 2022, an outreach meeting with heritage institutions, bodies and centers in the Arab countries.

The meeting was attended by 38 representatives of various institutions from 13 Arab countries, namely: Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Yemen.

Dr. Mourad Rifi, Director of the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, welcomed all participants, and offered a presentation of the Institute and its departments, achievements, work challenges, and the activities scheduled for the year 2023.

On their part, participants  raised a number of issues related to the Arabic manuscript heritage, and the role of the Institute in developing a comprehensive plan that would unify the work of all relevant centers and institutions.

This meeting is the first of its kind, and is organized in implementation of the directives of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, addressed to subsidiary institutions to enhance their interaction with, and openness to, their professional environment in the Arab world.  It will be followed by a series of coordination meetings to develop a joint comprehensive plan for the preservation and dissemination of  the Arabic manuscript heritage.
