Director-General :  ALECSO’s Network of Chairs promotes its mandate as an Arab House of Expertise

 



In his statement at the opening of the event entitled : “The Role of Scientific Chairs in the Development of International Commercial Arbitration : ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration as a Model”, held at ALECSO headquarters on October 3, 2022, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, pointed out that the establishment of the network of Scientific Chairs affiliated with ALECSO is designed to promote the Organization’s mandate as a House of Expertise in the fields of education, culture, science and ICT.

The Director-General stressed that ALECSO is keen to promote its openness to academic institutions and research centers in the Arab world, and to forge strong partnerships that would foster the Organization’s role and enhance its visibility and effectiveness. He announced that ALECSO will launch, on November 28-30, 2022, the First Forum of Scientific Chairs in the Arab World at Abou Bakr Belkaïd University of Tlemcen, Algeria, to be held under the title : “First Annual Forum for ALECSO Scientific Chairs in the service of Sustainable Development and Global Peace and Security”. This initiative is designed to help pool research capacities and leverage the Arab creative and scientific genius to promote a joint Arab project that would serve sustainable development and global peace and security, in partnership with governmental and non-governmental agencies and Arab and international institutions, both public and private.

The Director-General noted, in the same context, that the Organization, through the Secretariat of the Executive Board and General Conference, and in cooperation with Arab National Commissions for Education, Culture and Science, has actively worked to strengthen its networks of Schools, Clubs and Chairs.  This effort, he added, is designed  to build bridges of cooperation and communication with educational, cultural and scientific institutions, to bring the Organization closer to its environment, and to take best advantage of its programs, activities and plans.

The Director-General commended, in his statement, the significant efforts made by the Rector of the University of Tunis El-Manar, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science in Tunis, and the Director of the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration, and highlighted the leading role they have played in establishing this Scientific Chair. These efforts have yielded significant results, including the launch of a refereed Journal, a specialized training program, and  a master’s degree in international commercial arbitration.

The event was attended, both in person and remotely, by prominent experts in international commercial arbitration, including Dr. Gaston KENFACK, President of 49th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and international advisor to the ALECSO Chair for International Commercial Arbitration. 

It is noteworthy that ALECSO now has 33 Arab Chairs in various fields of scientific research.
