ALECSO participates in MONDIACULT 2022

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Science (ALECSO) took part in  the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development  (MONDIACULT 2022), held in Mexico on  September 28-30, 2022.

The Director-General of ALECSO was represented in this Conference by Dr. Mourad Mahmoudi, Secretary of the Executive Board and General Conference, Acting Director of the Culture Department, and Dr. Hedi Ghemari, Coordinator of Activities at the same Department.

MONDIACULT 2022 is convened 40 years after the first World Conference on Cultural Policies held in Mexico City (Mexico) in 1982, the outcomes of which served as a historical reference for the relationship between culture and human development.

MONDIACULT 2022 touches on various topics and issues related to heritage and cultural diversity in crisis times, culture for development, and the renewal and promotion of sustainable cultural policies. It also addresses the future of cultural policies, and the central role of culture as a driver of sustainable development and as a means of achieving peace and prosperity.

MONDIACULT 2022 offers an opportunity to reaffirm the global commitment to meet the challenges facing multicultural societies, and to develop a forward-looking vision for cultural policies, by focusing on a set of key themes, including in particular, strengthening the role of culture as a main driver of advancement and sustainable development, meeting the opportunities and challenges of digitization, protecting and harnessing cultural heritage for community service and cultural diplomacy, enhancing creative economy and developing the relevant infrastructure, and promoting education, training and capacity-building in the cultural sector, especially among youth.
