ALECSO Observatory releases Statistical Bulletin on   “Digital Education in the Arab Countries”

The Observatory of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) has issued a Statistical Bulletin on “Digital Education in the Arab Countries”.

The Bulletin was prepared on the occasion of ALECSO’s participation in the UN “Transforming Education Summit  2022”, and the presentation of its “Learning and Education Connected Computer Devices for All” initiative.

This initiative is designed to promote digital solidarity between high-income and low-income countries, which helps to spread digital education/learning practices all over the Arab region

The Bulletin includes data and indicators to measure progress in implementing Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially Target 4.a. which seeks to “build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all”.

The Bulletin provides analysis of the state of digital education in the Arab countries, based on the following indicators :

  • Individuals using the Internet (subscriptions to fixed-line broadband services);
  • Percentage of schools, by level of education, with access to electricity;
  • Percentage of schools, by level of education, equipped with  computers for pedagogical purposes;
  • Percentage of schools, by level of education, with access to the Internet for pedagogical purposes.

Other relevant indicators have also been used to measure progress in the implementation of SDG4 during the period 2015-2020.
