ALECSO participates in the UN Transforming Education Summit
The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization will take part in the “Transforming Education Summit”, scheduled to be held on 16-19 September 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.
On the sidelines of the Summit, ALECSO will organize a side event on September 17, 2022, entitled :“Digital Solidarity Initiative: Learning and Education Connected Computer Devices for All.” This event is organized jointly with UNESCO as well as with Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Millennium@EDU for Sustainable Education.
This initiative is part of ALECSO’s commitment to contribute to developing an Arab strategic vision for the implementation of Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
ALECSO is actively working on promoting the role of technology in achieving SDG4, particularly Target 4.a. that aims to “build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.” This target is measured through Indicator 4.a.1 : “Proportion of schools with access to : 1) Electricity; 2) ; (b) the Internet for educational purposes; (c) Computer equipment for educational purposes.
This side event will bring together Arab high-ranking officials to share views and visions on ways of strengthening education and learning systems in the Arab world, and further promoting the implementation of Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
