H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part, virtually on August 18, 2022, in the opening session of the Global Smart Education Conference (2022), held in Beijing, China, under the title “Smart Technology and Digital Transformation in Education”.
The Conference was attended by Chinese experts and researchers in the educational, scientific and technological fields, along with participants from the business circles from around the world, who discussed several items including :
- Enabling learning through the development of smart technology;
- The learning crisis and the future of education from the students’ perspective;
- Teacher performance and education for innovation from the teachers’ perspective;
- The development of regional smart education and the digital governance of education.
During the opening session, the launch of the Global Smart Education Network was officially announced. The network involves partnership among a number of institutions, namely:
- Beijing Normal University (BNU)
- Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO)
- The Commonwealth of Learning (COL)
- UNESCO Institute for Information Technology in Education (IITE)
- Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO)
- International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
- International Association of Smart Learning Environments (IASLE)
This network, the first of its kind in the world, aims to leverage modern technologies to provide equal smart learning opportunities for all, in pursuit of Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In his address to the Conference, the Director-General underlined the key role of technology in promoting the teaching/learning process, and highlighted the efforts of ALECSO in this regard, including the establishment of partnerships and the implementation of relevant activities and projects. He expressed his delight that ALECSO is among the founding organizations of the Global Smart Education Network, indicating that ALECSO stands ready to work with other partners in the network toward achieving the set goals.
