The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Culture Department) took part, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, in the 9th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which kicked off on July 4, 2022 under the chairmanship of the Permanent Delegate of the Republic of the Philippines to UNESCO.
The session discusses issues that are important for the safeguarding of living heritage around the world and the future of the Convention. These include notably the global reflection on the listing mechanisms of the Convention, the Plan for the use of the resources of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund and the accreditation of non-governmental organizations. Other items on the session’s agenda include the UNESCO’s medium-term strategy for period 2022-2029, and the election of the members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the next four years.
