   ALECSO Director-General participates in the   meeting of the Arab Group at UNESCO

 

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part in the Arab Group meeting, held on June 29, 2022 at UNESCO headquarters, under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Marwan Awartani, Palestinian Minister of Education, and in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Jumeh, Permanent Delegate of Yemen to UNESCO and President of the Arab Group.

The Minister welcomed the Arab States’ Ambassadors, Permanent Delegates to UNESCO. He offered an overview of the current state of educational institutions in Palestine, which suffer from assaults by the Israeli authorities against children in Palestinian cities and villages, with negative impacts on the psychology of students and their families. 

The Minister called for the need to review educational systems and programs so that they can meet UNESCO’s relevant recommendations and better serve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 4 on education.

On his part, the Director-General presented ALECSO’s vision in this regard, underlining the need to support Palestinian children and offer them inclusive and equitable opportunities to receive safe and quality education. 

The Director-General stressed the need to review educational systems in the Arab countries in the post-COVID 19 era,  following the negative impacts that the pandemic has had on education. He added that the present meeting would help enhance the vision of the Arab countries and unify their position at the United Nations Transforming Education Summit, scheduled to be held in September 2022 in New York, USA.
