ALECSO Director-General chairs closing of Calligraphy Exhibition

Chairing the closing ceremony of the Calligraphy Exhibition held at ALECSO headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, indicated, in a statement on this occasion, that this one month-long exhibition was an opportunity for dialogue and for the sharing of ideas and approaches among experts and calligraphers from Arab countries, and more particularly from King Abdulaziz Public Library, about the art of calligraphy. Thanks to the efforts of Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, this art has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Director-General stressed the importance of motivating young people to develop a passion for this art. In this regard, children and youth were given the opportunity to take part these dialogues on Arabic calligraphy, and relevant workshops were organized to that end.

The Director-General noted that the participation of King Abdulaziz Public Library in this event came to strengthen ALECSO’s cooperation and partnership with institutions in Saudi Arabia and across the Arab World.

The exhibition concluded with a symposium during which lectures on the art of calligraphy across history were offered by eminent Arab calligraphers.
