The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) organized, on June 21-23, 2022 in Amman, Jordan, jointly with the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics, a training workshop for the ALECSO Observatory’s Liaison Officers.

The workshop seeks to upgrade the capacities of Liaison Officers in collecting and classifying statistics related to education, culture, science and scientific research, based on standard global methodologies, as well in calculating indicators and using them to monitor progress in implementing the SDGs related to education, culture and science in the Arab world.

The workshop was attended by Liaison officers from 14 Arab countries, namely Jordan, Oman, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen and Libya.

In his opening statement, Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department at ALECSO, conveyed to all participants the greetings of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and his wishes for the success for the workshop.

Dr. Jemni indicated that this workshop is part of implementing the Observatory’s new vision which involves collecting data and indicators from reliable international sources and providing currently unavailable data through questionnaires, in cooperation with Liaison Officers in Arab countries. Cooperation will also involve the conduct of field studies, the first of which will focus on Arab youth’s aspirations in education, culture, science and ICT.

Dr. Jemni presented, on this occasion, the new program of the ALECSO Observatory, which involves the creation of interactive databases, as part of a future-oriented vision for the work of the Observatory.
