ALECSO signs partnership agreement with the   National Agency for the Fight against Illiteracy 



On the sidelines of “CONFINTEA VII, a partnership agreement was signed, in Marrakech, Morocco, on June 16, 2022, between the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization and the National Agency for the Fight Against Illiteracy, under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.  

This agreement was signed by Mr. Abdul Samih Mahmoud, Director of the National Agency for the Fight Against Illiteracy, and Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department at ALECSO. It is designed to strengthen efforts aimed at promoting education and lifelong learning for adults, fostering their openness to the world of knowledge, and enhancing their integration into the labor market.

Mr. Abdul Samih Mahmoud indicated, in a statement on this occasion, that this agreement is part of implementing the Royal directives related to education and training in general, and to the fight against illiteracy in particular. He added that this partnership reflects the Agency’s openness to all partners, and is designed to move forward in fighting illiteracy and promoting adult education and lifelong learning.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Jemni stressed that this agreement is aligned with the “Marrakesh Framework of Action” on adult education, and seeks to lay strong foundations for a fruitful cooperation between the two institutions for the implementation of joint projects to fight illiteracy and promote adult education. He commended, on this occasion, the choice of Morocco as the first Arab and African country to play host to CONFINTEA VII.

Under this agreement, the two parties will implement joint projects aimed at reducing illiteracy rates, carry out joint research and studies, organize joint events, workshops, conferences and exhibitions, share experience and expertise, promote skills enhancement in the field of lifelong learning, and formulate and implement action plans to combat illiteracy.

The two parties also agreed to set up a joint monitoring and evaluation committee, to be in charge of overseeing the implementation of the agreement.
