The “ALECSO Observatory” has recently released its 6th Statistical Bulletin (May 2022) entitled : “Museums in the Arab Region and Around the World.”
The Bulletin provides data on museums in the Arab countries and all over the world, and the number of museums per million inhabitants. The available data indicate, in this regard, that museums in the Arab region represent only 0.7% of the total number of museums in the world, and that the average number of museums per million inhabitants in the Arab region does not exceed 1.3 museums, compared to a global average of 13.8.
The Bulletin also includes information about the difficult circumstances experienced by museums in the Arab countries and all over the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the losses incurred as a result of museum closures for varying periods of time.
