H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, was received, on April 18, 2022, by H.E. Dr. Moncef Boukthir, Tunisian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The Minister welcomed the Director-General and thanked him for this visit which reflects a shared determination to enhance cooperation and develop a common vision that serves scientific research in the Arab world.
The Minister commended the role undertaken by ALECSO in its fields of competence, and its endeavor to disseminate successful experiences across the Arab world. He also touched on the outcomes of the Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held in Algeria on December 25-28, 2021, and indicated that the Ministry stands ready to provide expertise to the Organization when needed.
For his part, the Director-General thanked the Minister for offering this opportunity to consult on issues of mutual interest. He expressed appreciation of the continued cooperation between ALECSO and the Ministry which has contributed significant expertise to many activities, programs, and training courses.
The Director-General addressed the “Arab University Ranking” project, implemented jointly with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Association of Arab Universities, a project that will boost competition among universities. He indicated that a scientific committee of university professors was formed to set international ranking standards while taking into consideration Arab specificities.
The Director-General also touched on the Blockchain technology, designed to verify the authenticity of academic degrees and prevent the forgery of certificates. The Blockchain adoption project is one of the main outcomes of the latest Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ALECSO and the Ministry to define the cooperation agenda and set up a joint committee for follow-up and implementation.
