During this blessed month of Ramadan, the Palestinian people are suffering barbaric attacks at the hands of the occupation forces. In defiance of the feelings of Muslims and in violation of the international community’s resolutions, occupation soldiers have stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and opened fire on worshippers, leaving hundreds of wounded.
In addition to the abuses perpetrated against old people, women and children, the Zionist attacks have caused damage to the architectural and artistic components of Al-Aqsa Mosque, a flagrant assault on a sacred Palestinian monument and on the cultural heritage of all humanity.
ALECSO condemns in the strongest terms these attacks against the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to practice their religious rites and preserve their archaeological heritage. It calls on the international community, especially UNESCO, to compel the occupation authorities to immediately put an end to those practices that violate international charters and resolutions, especially UNESCO’s resolutions. It also calls for promptly identifying and repairing the damage caused to Al-Aqsa Mosque, and for holding the occupation authorities accountable for their actions that demonstrate a total disregard of international resolutions.
At the same time, ALECSO salutes the Palestinians’ commitment to their land and heritage, and their insistence on their right to practice their religious rites freely and safely inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, and on their inalienable right to live in peace on their land and establish their independent State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
