The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part in the 4th Arab Sustainable Development Week (ASDW), organized, on February 13-15, 2022, by the League of Arab States in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, under the theme : “Together for Sustainable Recovery”.

This event, held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and attended by high-level representatives of relevant international organizations, private institutions and civil society organizations, was designed to address the impacts of the Corona pandemic and the ways of achieving sustainable and resilient recovery.

The ASDW working sessions addressed a number of issues pertaining to the Arab Sustainability Initiative, urban water security for sustainable development, and anticipation of future opportunities and skills in the post-COVID-19 world, in light of modern technological advances.

Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department, took part in the working session on “The Role of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals”.  In a paper entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Education for Sustainable Development”, Dr. Jemni underlined the need to localize artificial intelligence in the Arab world and to leverage this technology most effectively in order to promote access to inclusive and equitable quality education and enhance lifelong learning opportunities for all. He highlighted ALECSO’s efforts, jointly with Arab States, to develop an Arab strategy for the incorporation of AI into education. He indicated, in this context, that a group of Arab experts has recently been entrusted with developing teacher-training content for the promotion of artificial intelligence education in Arab schools.
