Algerian Education Minister receives Director-General of ALECSO

 

 

On the occasion of Algeria’s hosting of the 18th Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research (December 26-28, 2021),  H.E. Dr. Abdelhakim Belabed, Algerian Minister of National Education and President of the Algerian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, received, on December 29, 2021 at the Ministry’s headquarters, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.

The meeting discussed ways of scaling up relations between ALECSO and the Ministry, in order to benefit from Algeria’s expertise in the fields of education, culture and science, and to extend the Algerian experience to other Arab countries, especially that education has received priority attention from the Algerian State which has worked to upgrade this sector as part of implementing Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Agenda.

The Minister addressed the organization of the OER Forum, in coordination with ALECSO and with the participation of Arab States, in implementation of a recommendation submitted by the Algerian Ministry of Education during the 11th Conference of Arab Education Ministers, held in Manama, Bahrain, in November 2019.

On his part, the Director-General expressed his thanks to the Minister for providing this opportunity to congratulate the President, Government and people of Algeria on the success of the Conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research.  He indicated that ALECSO is keen to scale up cooperation and joint action, and to benefit from Algeria’s expertise and competencies in the field of education, and stressed ALECSO’s readiness to organize the OER Forum early 2022 in Algeria.

The meeting was an opportunity to share ideas and views and to discuss the best ways of developing education by leveraging Arab States’ expertise and experiences.

The meeting concluded with a press conference in which the two parties indicated that they will pursue cooperation and consultation, and will work to address and assess the impact of education disruption under COVID-19 on educational outcomes.
