 ALECSO Director-General participates in UAE   in the celebration of the World Arabic Language Day 

 

 

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, took part in the celebration of the World Arabic Language Day, held in Dubai, UAE, on December 18, 2021, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Mohamed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

The official celebration of the World Arabic Language Day started with opening statements by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Dr. Ali Bin Abdullah bin Musa, Secretary-General of the International Council of the Arabic Language, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, H.E. Mrs. Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth, and H.E.  Princess Haifa Al Muqrin, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to UNESCO.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ould Amar expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. He stressed the high importance that ALECSO attaches to the Arabic language, highlighting its significant role in promoting cultural communication, in building and disseminating knowledge, and in developing thought, imagination, and creativity, as well as in spreading the values ​​of beauty, truth, freedom, peace, goodness, diversity, and cultural exchange, and in building bridges of communication, coexistence and dialogue among peoples and across times and places.

Dr. Ould Amar underlined, in his statement, the need to serve, protect and promote the Arabic language, to increase its use in all educational, administrative, media, production, economic and business spheres, and to bring it up to date with modern technologies and digital applications. He indicated, in this regard, that ALECSO is keen on promoting the Arabic language through its policies, partnerships, programs and projects, the latest among which being the project of developing a “Common Framework of Reference for Arabic Language”.

Dr. Ould Amar took this opportunity to commend all the significant initiatives undertaken by countries and by relevant organizations and institutions, including the initiatives of King Salman International Complex for Arabic Language in Saudi Arabia, the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah and other Arabic language academies, the Arabic Language International Council, the Arab World Institute in Paris, Arab and Islamic cultural centers, and other relevant Arab and international institutions. 

Dr. Ould Amar concluded by asserting that the Arabic language has valuable opportunities to regain its rightful place and enable its users to contribute to enriching human knowledge in all scientific and technological fields and empowering Arab societies to move ahead in achieving sustainable development. In the end, he renewed his thanks to Ms. Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth and President of the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science for the kind invitation and excellent cooperation.
