ALECSO holds Webinar on   “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in the Arab World”

 

 



The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ICT Department) held, on October 25, 2021, a webinar on “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in the Arab World”, in collaboration with the Qatar Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the Lebanese Commission for Education, Culture and Science.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, highlighted the new technological advances and commended the implementation of major pilot projects designed to harness Artificial Intelligence for the promotion of education through innovative learning/teaching methods and practices; thereby speeding up progress towards achieving Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Agenda. He underlined, in this regard, the significant role that Artificial Intelligence plays in addressing inequalities in access to knowledge and in reducing technology gaps within and among Arab countries.

Statements were also made, during the opening session, by Dr. Hamda Al-Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and Dr. Tala Zein, Secretary-General of the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, who both stressed the importance of promoting the use of Artificial Intelligence in education and acquiring skills to further consolidate technological culture in education systems. They also emphasized the need to organize seminars and workshops on how to leverage new technologies like Artificial Intelligence to advance the education sector.

Five papers were delivered during the webinar, following which the floor was opened for discussions on Artificial Intelligence and its incorporation into the education process.
