Arab Open Access Week 2021

 

The Second Arab Open Access Week, organized by ALECSO (ICT Department) jointly with the Arab Community of Open Access (ACOA), kicked off on October 19, 2021. 

In his opening remarks, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, extended his thanks to all partners who contributed to the organization of this event, particularly the Arab Community of Open Access (ACOA). 

Dr. Ould Amar indicated that ALECSO has initiated a number of pilot projects to promote Open Access in the field of education. These projects concern, in particular, the promotion of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) , the enhancement of teacher capacities based on the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (ICT-CFT), the use of Cloud Computing in education, the development of Arab mobile applications, and the promotion of Open Educational Resources, which is directly linked to the theme of this event.

 

The forum offers an opportunity for scientists, researchers, professionals, experts, and all relevant stakeholders from across the Arab world to share views, experience and expertise, to discuss research issues, and to present their scientific and research outputs.

 

The forum addresses eight themes, namely :

  • Theme 1 : Arab information institutions and their role in promoting Open Access
  • Theme 2 : The state of Open Access in the Arab world and beyond
  • Theme 3 : Open Access via digital repositories : the Green Road
  • Theme 4 : Scientific Periodicals
  • Theme 5 : Other sources of Open Access
  • Theme 6 : Open Access to cultural heritage resources
  • Theme 7 : Open Access for persons with disabilities
  • Theme 8 : Open access in response to COVID-19.
