H.E. Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Yemen, received, on September 1, 2021 at the headquarters of the Yemeni Embassy in Cairo, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization.
The Yemeni Minister thanked the Director-General for this meeting which offered the opportunity to discuss ways and means to enhance joint cooperation. He also extended his thanks to ALECSO for its significant activities in the educational, cultural and scientific fields, for the assistance it provides to enroll Yemeni students in the Institute of Arab Research and Studies, as well as for its support to the Yemeni educational institutions through the Yemen National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
The Minister also briefed the Director-General on the current situation of higher education in Yemen following the COVID-19 education disruption. He called on the Organization to continue supporting the Ministry, especially in terms of capacity-building and training of trainers.
On his part, the Director-General thanked the Yemeni Minister for offering this opportunity to consult on matters of joint concern. He stressed that ALECSO stands ready to provide support and expertise to the Yemeni Government so that it can overcome the difficulties faced by the education sector.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Ambassador of Yemen to Egypt, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy, and Mr. Abdelhak Haif, Head of the Office of the Director General.
