H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, took part, on August 26, 2021, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in the first meeting of the Arab University Ranking Board. The ranking is conducted by ALECSO, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and the Association of Arab universities.

The meeting was also attended Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, and Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities. It was devoted to launching the missions of the three units approved in the Cooperation Agreement concluded between the three parties.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of this Arab academic project and the need to ensure its success and continuity, especially that it is the first of its kind in the Arab world. He also stressed that indicators should take into account the specificity of Arab universities, and be based on credible analysis, thereby serving as a catalyst for universities, including private ones.

This first meeting of the Board was chaired by Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh. Chairmanship of the Board is assumed in rotation.

It was agreed that the steering committee will hold a virtual meeting to examine the points agreed upon during this meeting.

The Board will hold its second meeting early 2022.
