ALECSO participates in Regional Workshop on Teacher Preparation and Training Systems in the Arab World

The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Education Department) took part, on July 28, 2021, in a regional workshop held by the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education (Riyadh - Saudi Arabia) under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Saudi Minister of Education, to discuss the outputs of the study prepared by the Center on “Teacher Preparation and Training Systems in the Arab Countries”.

The workshop was designed to :

  • Examine the state of intermediate and secondary school teacher training programs in the Arab countries;
  • Monitor international best practices in terms of intermediate and secondary school teacher training programs;
  • Develop the proposed framework for the promotion of intermediate and secondary school teacher training programs in the Arab countries, in light of relevant global trends and best practices;
  • Promote the dissemination of the culture of quality in education;
  • Enhance cooperation and integration between regional and international organizations working on quality and excellence in education.

The workshop was an opportunity for relevant experts and officials to share views and experiences. It also enabled participants to benefit from the results of a field study conducted by the Center, which involved a systematic comparison between teacher preparation and training systems in some Arab countries and their counterparts in a number of reference countries, and proposed a framework for teacher development and upgrading programs.

ALECSO’s participation in this workshop comes as part of its strong partnership with the Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education, and is in pursuit of the shared goal of improving the quality and outcomes of education in the Arab countries, in line with the Education 2030 Framework for Action.
