The workshop on “The Role of Mathematics and Science in Achieving Sustainable Development” kicked off on July 27, 2021. It is organized by ALECSO (Education Department), in collaboration with the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education, and in coordination with the Mauritanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
Attended by relevant specialists from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the two-day workshop includes presentations and discussions aimed at developing knowledge and skills on :
- The current state of mathematics and science education in the Arab World, and the ways and means to develop it;
- The role of mathematics in developing life skills;
- Multiple intelligences;
- Mathematics curricula in the service of sustainable development;
- Indicators on the relationship between mathematics/science and development,
- Ways of enhancing the contribution of mathematics/sciences to achieving development.
The workshop offers an opportunity to deepen consideration and come out with proposals on how to develop mathematics and science education, in line with the Education 2030 Agenda.
