H.E. President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, received, on May 27, 2021, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO.
Dr. Ould Amar presented to the Mauritanian President the principal lines of action of ALECSO and its main achievements for the benefit of Member States over the past decades. He also briefed the President on the outcomes of his meetings with the Mauritanian Ministers in charge of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Culture and Handicrafts, which are all sectors that fall within ALECSO’s fields of competence. He indicated that his visit to Mauritania was an opportunity to offer one thousand computers as a gift from ALECSO to the Mauritanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Dr. Ould Amar reviewed the main initiatives undertaken by ALECSO in response to the COVID-19 crisis, including in particular providing online educational platforms to maintain the continuity of education in the Arab countries. He added that the Organization is pursuing its efforts with Member States in order to promote e-learning and provide the needed technological means and qualified human resources. Meeting this challenge requires providing an advanced technological environment for future generations.
On his part, the Mauritanian President thanked the Director-General for the role he plays in developing the Organization and implementing its noble mandate. He emphasized the need to give utmost importance to the fields of education, culture and science, and to support the Organization so that it can fulfill its mission in the best of conditions. He also highlighted the need to strengthen joint Arab action, to give all due attention to education and its outputs, to build a generation imbued with the sense of leadership and innovation, as well as to promote and preserve the Arabic language.
During this meeting, the Director-General offered the “ALECSO Shield” to the Mauritanian President.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lamine, Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic; Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Mohamed Fadel, Officer in Charge of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic; Dr. Mohamed Jemni, Director of ICT Department at ALECSO, and Mr. Abdelhak Haif, Head of the Office of the Director General.
Following this meeting, and in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, the Director-General said: “I was honored to be received by His Excellency the President of the Republic. It was an opportunity for me to present to the President the efforts undertaken by ALECSO and its current activities which involve the development of the Organization’s Strategic Plan for the period 2023-2028 and the preparation of the specialized ministerial conferences. I also briefed the President on ALECSO’s efforts targeted at Member States that particularly need help at this stage, including the initiative to offer one thousand computers to Mauritanian students. This meeting also offered me a valuable opportunity to listen to the directives of the President who urged that Mauritania’s term at the head of the Organization be one that would further promote Arab consensus and be marked by high efficiency and excellent performance”.
