At the kind invitation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Sector of Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories), the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization participated, on April 27, 2021, in the 103rd session of the “Committee on Educational Programs for Arab Students in the Occupied Arab Territories”.
The session was chaired by H.E. Mr. Ayoub Eliyan, Director-General of the Department of Educational Supervision and Rehabilitation (State of Palestine), and was attended by delegations from the following countries and organizations: Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Palestine Radio, ASBU, ISESCO, and UNRWA. The session’s agenda included statements by delegations and the reports of participating countries and organizations.
ALECSO’s statement in this meeting commended the efforts of the Sector of Palestine and the Occupied Arab territories to organize the Committee’s meeting amid the current global situation. It highlighted ALECSO’s keenness, under the direction of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General, to take part in all events and activities designed to support Palestinian efforts in the educational, cultural and scientific fields, in coordination with the institutions of the Palestinian State, and with all partners and relevant actors.
ALECSO’s statement paid tribute to the educational efforts deployed throughout the Palestinian territories which are currently witnessing violent events in Al-Quds, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It reaffirmed the Organization’s continuous support for the struggle of the Palestinian people and for their legitimate right to establish their independent State, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
At the close of the meeting, the Committee commended the selection of the Palestinian city of Bethlehem as “Capital of Arab Culture for 2021” by ALECSO, and the ASBU initiative to coordinate with the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation for the TV and radio coverage of this important event.
