The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization took part, on February 28, 2021, in the webinar organized by the Social Affairs Sector, Culture and Dialogue of Civilizations Department at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, as part of the celebration of the “Arab Cultural Heritage Day”.
The Arab Cultural Heritage Day is celebrated on February 27 of each year, in implementation of Resolution 8030 adopted by the League of Arab States Council at the Ministerial Level in March 2016.
ALECSO was represented in the event by Dr. Hayet Guermazi, Director of Culture Department, who made a PowerPoint presentation in which she highlighted ALECSO’s actions and efforts to protect cultural heritage in the Arab countries, and the role it plays in coordinating the preparation of joint Arab nomination files and in rallying support for the inscription of Arab cultural and natural heritage elements on the World Heritage List. She also presented ALECSO’s priorities in this field, including, in particular, promoting the optimum use of the rich and diverse cultural heritage in the Arab countries in the service of sustainable development.
The meeting was held under the auspices of Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, with the participation of the UNESCO Cairo Office.
